HGH India explores South India with its 16th edition

Bengaluru | 3rd – 6th December 2024

November 2024:

HGH India, a well-established bi-annual trade show for home textiles, home décor, home furniture, houseware & gifts, is exploring South India for the first time by hosting the 16th edition of the show in Bengaluru. The show is slated to take place from 3rd to 6th December 2024 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre in Hall 1 and 2.

Managing Director of HGH India, Mr. Arun Roongta said, “It is a conscious decision to host the 16th edition in Bengaluru this year. South India has a robust presence of leading furnishing brands and retailers, including IKEA, which established its initial stores in Hyderabad. Mumbai TRENDS 2024-25

Trends forecasted by HGH India have been very useful for its exhibitors and visitors over the years for designing and merchandising new collections for the upcoming season. “CULTURE CODES”- the latest trends by HGH India are formulated based on thorough research executed by an experienced international design team. “CULTURE CODES – Identity & Curiosity” trends for 2024-25 identify with the youthful and contemporary Indian consumers, who look for a blend of Indian traditions, modern technology, and global influences in their lifestyle.

Trend book titled “CULTURE CODES”- provides comprehensive guidance on colours, designs, materials, and styles for your new collections for the year 2024-25. These trends are meticulously curated home fashion trends for the Indian market, which apply to all home categories- home textiles, home décor, home furnishings, housewares, and gifts and are classified into four sub-groups-

1. Saffron Sky
2. Gorgeous Garden
3. Candy Country
4. Intuition Island

TRENDS 2024/2025

CULTURE CODES
Identity and Curiosity

Society is changing. India is a place where traditional values are strongly cherished but as well new identities arise, accompanied by new value systems. What will future India be like? Personal developments meet self-discovery, growth, and changes. Global transformation enhances personal transformations, including arts, music, language, and other cultural expressions.

Two main development trends of revolutionary influence have been shaking and taken over society and markets: the requirements of sustainability in all sorts of product ranges and the increasing use of artificial intelligence in almost any kind of development process; search engines and ChatGPT, for instance. Geopolitical issues, however, have generated some global adaptions, which also reflect on people inside countries. The somehow imposed introspection the countries are into fuels a global revival of heritage issues: a renaissance of localized productions and brands. Consumers, however, are not getting tired of renowned, and often international brands – all on the contrary: products of high- level development fit perfectly well into the sustainability ranking catalogue of long-lasting cutting- edge quality products. People have also turned their attention towards newly discovered national products and refined local goods that align perfectly well with their cultural and traditional everyday living.

The resurgence of cherishing inherited cultures and traditions worldwide, preserves and fortifies our immense wealth concerning the communities’ diversity. Opposite to any other thought, it is far from retrograde, but enhances modernization by reimaging valuable heritage techniques and crafts for contemporary living and expanding the concept all over the global markets. The use of robots and artificial intelligence leads to a global resurgence of art and craft. The UNESCO organization views traditional crafts as intangible cultural heritage. Nowadays, learning production techniques is worldwide accessible through social media: how to do art & craft, how to learn cooking techniques & use tools and so much more. Every one of our 4 trends this year, showcases handmade objects.

Saffron Sky

Cultural heritage plays a crucial role in shaping ones’ identity. Here, culture meets adventure! New identity concepts need surfaces to expand on. Home is the closest ‘playground’ for our feelings, senses, and ideas. Lack of time in modern life, as well as digital overload leads towards a need for more freedom and relaxation. That is why imperfection is such a cool key-visual: it bears its own beauty and showcases modern lifestyle. The casual look meets traditions and cultural peculiarities.

Colours of clay and indigo pigments are the oldest source of dye. The “saffron sky” trend is inspired by spicy and earthy colours, reminding of the sensual scents of Indian cuisine – grounding seeking souls down to earth – combined with casual denim blues, the colours of early morning mist taking to the skies, floating upon the waters like a promising future waiting to be unveiled. Terracotta-pottery, selected pieces of traditional handicrafts, tie-dyes and copper works for kitchens. Brand new non- plastic disposable bamboo tableware is completely in line with the new nature trend, avoiding disposal of plastics in the environment or in the oceans. Sustainable basketry organizes bathrooms as well as living rooms. Natural materials perfectly harmonize with a refined denim-style for decorations and upholstery – modern and stylish but reminiscent of cultural heritage. Wooden furniture, woodcarvings and traditional art-pieces combined with modern designs create a casual look.
Sugarcane bagasse residual from sugar production is a new material recovered from food waste and basically avoids the climate stressing plastics-disposal, generating ecological non-plastic waste. Chindi rugs, made of left-over materials – a long tradition in India, long before the words ‘sustainable’ or ‘upcycling’ even existed!

Gorgeous Garden

We are truly sent back to the feeling of the late sixties and early seventies, where nature was allowed into homes in a delicate, refined, and artificial way. Flora and fauna designs are displayed in abundance, foliage patterns in deep colours recreate a harmonious biophilic interior. Textile prints with exotic landscapes, peacock feathers or elephants in endless patterns, reflect the languish for nature or darling travel-memories; enhanced by beloved vintage pieces, telling stories of our ancestors. Sophisticated designs featuring dark green leaves, purple and lilac flower motives are designed for curtains, as well as delicately enriched geometrical forms for wallpapers. High-end wooden furniture shaped in bamboo style, with brass element joints is highly fashionable again, the furniture embodies magnificence, covered in dark coloured velvet inviting to a soft and comfortable stay.

Elegance and style are intended also in kitchen and table settings. A culinary identity matches the local cuisine and food culture with unique dishes, culinary traditions, and local specialties celebrating their infinite diversity. Gardening is a Megatrend. Growing spices in pots for direct use.

New materials are tested, as rattan clay, recycled plastics, and sustainable materials as bamboo, rattan, especially in furniture and baskets. Nature is the driver for a better future: tree-bark, pineapple and algae are waiting to be explored. A new natural identity cherishes biodiversity and cleanliness in the nature. People, in their way of life, and their social dynamics contribute to this new identity. Local communities, in their commitments and their interactions play a role in shaping the overall experience.

Candy Country

Have you ever been completely flooded, factually submerged in a funny-puppet home fashion, that reflects a fantasy childhood, pure joy, easiness, diversity and at the same time, is mastered worldwide by young influencer ladies with excelling professionalism? This is the powerful business world of ‘candy country’. A common kitchen utensil or furniture piece becomes an art piece, loveable to use, drowned in colourful combinations.

Sweet, optimistic, and naïve warm pastel colours reflect a perfectly highlighted world of accurately styled young hearted people who give dull objects and jobs with a striking colour- a meaning of light- hearted brightness and cleanliness, cherishing smiles even when thoughts are grey.
There is also a strong charge of self-irony and a sense of humour fluttering around this trend: take a broom spotted with flowers and suddenly you like the job; you are brooming out bad moods! Home turns into a hidden place of imagination sending a powerful message: it is a safe haven, but don’t let yourself go down when you come home; take a pink shower, stay strong, inspired, and beautiful, because this is your essence! However, the reflection of cleanliness lives up as well to the concept of vegan or vegetarian living – a striking new global sustainability trend – that has been familiar to India for centuries. Observe this merge of fashion, lifestyle, and tradition!

Florals, stripes, and dots, recycled plastic with speckled terrazzo optics, recycled glass, traditional block prints, sculptures, and candles, stand-alone furniture, fashionable and traditional at the same time: multiplying the energy that changes your mood when you open the door. You can’t help smiling.

Intuition Island

Know-how and craftsmanship are a living tradition in India, and the basis of Indian design vocabulary. Indian craftmanship is operating on three levels: on industrial handmade items, on objects of daily use and on artisanal luxury crafts. Handcrafted items always have a personal homey touch because people have been individually involved with their identities and cultural traditions.

Handcrafted objects provide utmost perfection realized by highly skilled and trained hands, showcasing the masterly victory by men or women over natural materials. That is cultural wealth. Most powerful and popular is the story-telling part of creativity, very trendy nowadays.

Arty-piece collections tell us about a certain totemic quality, which fits as well in modern as in historically inspired homes and architectural styles. The economic activities and sources of livelihood also contribute to this identity feature, tied to specific industries, or other factors. Natural colours paired with natural materials, give a warm and cosy feeling, relaxing soul, and body: reflecting nature in elegant simplicity. Natural stone floorings and furniture, enhanced by artistic mosaics are sustainable and long-lasting art pieces, gaining beauty and patina by ageing.

There is a whole philosophy about the spiritual value of stones, and indeed, they transmit stability, craftsmanship and disperse generously an aura of festivity to rooms. They are highly sustainable and long-lasting, gaining beauty and patina by ageing. Today, luxury is defined as wellbeing, comfort, and relaxing tranquillity, and soft and natural materials as well as lively designed surfaces contribute to stimulating our senses: the natural beauty of textiles and carpets turn consumers into collectors. These products featuring old techniques and new designs look like large-formatted graphics, collages, or reliefs. Handmade glass, ceramics, natural stone also implicate a cultural cross-over style, telling beautiful stories about the World.

Day two at HGH India’s 13th edition started with a special focus on design and architecture. HGH India has collaborated with the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), as a supporting association, to introduce the benefits of HGH India in the architects and interior design fraternity in general and IIID members, in particular.

Since HGH India exhibitors have come not just from across India but 32 other countries, the trade show offers a wide range of home furniture, furnishing fabrics, decorative made-ups, decorative flooring, home décor, mattresses, tableware, kitchen appliances, cookware and general houseware.

Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India said, “It comes as an understanding from the current industry sentiment that retail is going to transform in a big way. Design is going to transform and the way consumers shop is changing too. Going forward, most furniture stores will sell ready furniture instead of furnishings. Mixer grinders will not sell on their functionality or performance alone, but also their colour, design and aesthetics. In today’s world, durability might not interest the consumers. They do not want furniture that will last them 30 years. They want to change the look and feel of their house every five years. Design is gaining importance. Hence, it is the need of the hour that we collaborate with a professional design fraternity. Our tie up with IIID to reach out to architects and interior designers in this show is a step in that direction. Integrating designs through home textiles, furnishing, home décor, home furniture and houseware through forecasted trends is a role HGH India wish to play increasingly, in the years ahead.”

Commenting on the Home Textiles market in India, Secretary Textiles, Mrs. Rachna Shah said, “It is a great initiative by HGH India, to bring the industry together with brands, manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers. They support artisans as well. We have seen HGH India grow from strength to strength through the last 12 editions and this being the 13th edition it is even bigger.

The Government was always very focused on promoting the textiles sector given its importance in generating economic activity and employment opportunities for people. A lot of MSMEs and start ups are involved in this sector. So, in terms of giving them an infrastructure push weather it is through our textile parks or giving production linked incentives through our PLI schemes or promoting the technical textiles sector by encouraging skilling and marketing support, it is an end-to-end support that the government is aiming at, especially for the traditional textiles sector including handlooms and handicrafts which are also very closely linked to home accessories, home décor and gifting.”

Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India said, ‘The Indian Home products market which includes home textiles, furnishings, home décor, furniture and a variety of houseware will continue to grow at 15% CAGR over the next ten years at least. Per capita consumption of all these products in India is very low compared to the developed world and hence with growing spending power of Indian consumers, the prospects for the domestic market are very bright. We are geared up for the largest edition of HGH India that is all set to provide several new sourcing solutions and business directions to home retailers, professional interior designers, architects and institutional buyers in home category.”

With the presence of 700 brands and manufacturers from 32 countries at HGH India, the trade and professional buyers can expect a never before range of merchandise which will help them boost their business potential for the upcoming Diwali and festive retail season.

Press Release No. 12.8
Kids toys sector gets a boost

India’s domestic toy manufacturing got a significant boost after the Centre increased import duties on toys to 60% from 20% in February 2020 and The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) came out with a Quality Control Order (QCO) for the sector. Toy production in India is set to get a big push with the government actively considering the extension of the PLI Scheme to the sector with a proposed outlay of about INR 3500 Crore. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has identified toys as a top sector that could benefit from the PLI scheme. The benefit will be extended to some of the finished toys rather than to toy parts. As a result, toy imports declined 70% to $110 million in 2021-22 from $371 million in 2018-19, while export of toys from the country increased 61.39 % to $326 million from $202 million in the same period, says Government figures.

India has a fertility rate of 2.2 children per woman – (see https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.TFRT.IN). That implies that for India the number of kids in the society would outnumber the other age groups. At large, Indian market is growing much stronger than most other markets (exception Africa). That should give aside from duties and support schemes a natural boost in itself.

With changing lifestyle and shopping habits of younger Indian parents for their kids, brands and manufacturers in this segment need to redefine their retail and distribution strategy to reach their products beyond Kids or Toys Stores. As kids’ home market in India grows in volumes and parents seek better quality, child-friendly products, this segment opens doors of new opportunities.

HGH India, India’s well established trade show for Home and Houseware sector introduced a specialised section for babies & kids’ home products spanning from bed & bath, furniture, décor, flooring, toys, prams, hobbies, home activities, outdoor, sports & adventure, bathroom accessories, houseware, health & hygiene and so on. HGH India’s 12th edition culminated on 16th December in Mumbai and will be back in July 2023 in Mumbai again with a 3X bigger show.

Pluchi, a kids and home textile manufacturer were present and showcasing at HGH India for the 5th time consecutively. They showcased a highly creative range of knitted soft toys, baby & kids’ beddings, baby towels, accessories, comforters, gift sets etc. They also showcased their range of Disney/ Marvel/ Star wars licensed babies & kids’ products. Kids bed linen, shaped cushions, shower curtains, pillows, quilts were showcased by Happy Home Linens. Centuary Mattresses brought an exclusive kids mattresses collection. Bonheur and Doctor Towels unveiled their kids towels lines. Sharadha Terry, one of the finest producers of towels in India, launched both bed sheets and towels for kids under their brand Micro Cotton.

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) also organized presence of handmade toys for the first time in the Kids Home section of HGH India. They organised a group participation of handmade wooden toys manufacturers, kids’ furniture, and other kids & baby products. Majority wooden toy manufacturers were from Channapatna, a small town in Karnataka.

The city is famous for its wooden toys and lacquerware. Channapatna is also called Town of toys. These toys are manufactured in traditional and advanced small-scale industries. The origin of these toys is dated back to the reign of Tipu Sultan who invited the artisans from Persia in order to train the local artisans in the art of wooden toy making. These toys have been given Geographical Indication tag by Government of India.

There is a visible spike in the penetration of the market which is getting deeper and wider. In these B towns, consumption for high quality HOME products is going up. Visitors were able to find latest and unique products from leaders in mattresses, table & kitchen linen, wall papers, blinds and window dressings, home décor accessories, fragrances & spa products, handicrafts, artefacts, gifts, cookware, tableware, kitchenware, kitchen appliances, storage among general houseware.

Home Textiles – Home textiles and furnishing fabrics continue to be the largest selling categories in India’s home products market. With a consumption growth of 15-20% CAGR, they are creating increasing opportunities for existing as well as new retailers. Hundreds of new home textile stores are coming up across India every year. Many specialty stores like Jagdish Stores, Bharat Furnishings, Skipper, Darpan, Pride in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad who are fast becoming national chains with 5-20 stores, were seen at the show.

The top categories under home textile that saw traction were bed sheets, bed covers, decorative beddings, towels, bath linen & bath accessories, furnishing fabrics, curtains & blinds with their accessories, decorative made-ups, mattresses & pillows, rugs & carpets, bath mats, table & kitchen linen and coir & jute products – all housed at Hall 1 of the trade show.

Houseware – This year the Houseware segment, which has been witnessing consistent growth at HGH, moved to a bigger Hall 3. With rising incomes, Indian consumer demand in all sub-categories of houseware has been growing annually between 20-25%. New specialty retailers were seen sourcing products ranging from kitchenware, tableware, cookware, kitchen appliances, home appliances to security, bath accessories, storage, maintenance, cleaning & hygiene and outdoor & garden products.

An important trend noticed was integration of houseware with home décor and home textiles at retail level due to changing buying habits of consumers, leading to increased demand from home textiles and home décor retailers for houseware. Hall 3 was populated with prominent brands like Versace (Italy), Corelle (USA), Clay Craft, Lock-n-Lock (Korea), Berghoff (Belgium), Borosil and Baltra among others.

Homedecor – This year, there was a dedicated Home Decor segment set up in Hall 2. Home décor products like wallpapers, decorative synthetic & wooden flooring, wall décor, table tops, murals, artifacts, paintings, decorative clocks, photo frames, figurines, flowers, fragrances, decorative candles & candle stands, decorative mirrors & lights; handicrafts and a variety of decorative furniture and accessories were seen as priority items for home retailers to attract and retain customers.

HGH India offers opportunity for its home décor exhibitors to create national brands in this category, where products are almost entirely sold as unbranded commodities. Visitors experienced a complete voyage of discovery for their stores in hall 2, with widest ever range of exquisite handicrafts, artifacts and modern machine-made decorative accessories.

India is one of the fastest growing global markets for wallpaper where the demand is growing by 100% per annum. Press Release No. 1
HGH India unveils Home Fashion and Lifestyle Trends 2018 – 2019

Mumbai, 28th June: : HGH India 2018, India`s largest trade-show for home textiles, home décor, houseware and gifts – designed exclusively for the professional and trade visitors – presented the latest trends forcasted by it in home fashion and lifestyle at a press conference in Mumbai. Conceptualized and implemented by the internationally renowned design office Sahm + Permantier, the trend, under the title ‘Transition’,reflect the influence of social, lifestyle and technological changes in the Indian home products market in 2018 – 19.

The predicted trends are derived from intense research on colours, materials and patterns as well as on changing consumer values, lifestyle, evolving technology and attitudes. The trend book helps manufacturers, brands, retailers and professionals in home business to connect their products and innovations to the aspirational Indian consumers who see their home as an expression of their lifestyle and evolving culture.

The Four Trends for 2018-19 are:

So Funky at Home: It is the most dynamic and optimistic trend, gritty and upbeat. This trend is open for the patchwork of life. A lot of inspiration for wallpapers and textiles is based on industrial materials: mesh and grid structures displayed with a wide range effects, including layers. The prevailing patterns under this trend are wild stripes, scratched tapes, wavy and zigzags, bold typography elements and comic strip aesthetics. For textiles and objects, transparency effects are of interest as foils and vinyl, coloured transparent plastic and LED light décor. Vibrant colours are combined with black and white; neon colours give a striking accent.

Soft shades of Nature: An atmosphere of privacy and spa, cosy and comfort is created through this trend. The upholstery is held in fine textures for a relaxing upscale ambiance. Gentle colour fading, laces, net, shiny silk, mettallic yarn effects and sequins work are displayed mainly in floral décor. Walls are gently coloured, soft shadings of warm pink to violet create a subtle sensitive atmosphere, highlighted by sand and beige tones. Beds are laid in gracious and comforting colours transmitting clearness and light. Soft yellow and green accents recover the feeling of gentle sunshine and nature. A special note is given by gold and pastel mettalic shine accessories, leaving the rooms with a delicate scent.

Collector’s Chamber: The visitor is welcomed by dark mysterious and velvety colours, possibly held in umbra and bronze shades, to enter the most private rooms of the collector type. The collector’s chamber displays an intellectual understanding of interior decoration with a hint of drama and eccentricity. Patterns are modern and geometric, but may also show opulent floralornaments and high fashion jungle prints in rather dark colours, highlighted in sand and pale green. A lot of velvet, rich jacquard and textured fabrics are introduced as being newly inspired by nature. Huge green plants or dark tinted wallpaper with blu-greenish vegetal design or bed linen indiscreet greens escort the mind into epicurean spheres of a connoisseur.

Smart Bohemians: Ethnic references in the manner of heritage chic are mixed with the freshness of Scandinavian style or comfortable and smart lifestyle, making the perfect match for a joyous and modern family. Ecological commitment is present against casual décor offering a hint of surprising harmony. The aesthetics of handmade products are applied to all kind of consumer goods. The revival of ornamental styles of ceramic tiles as well as traditional block print motives are expressed in patterns of wallpaper, home textile and table ware. Light coloured wood and all kind of natural looking materials give a relaxed and young signature to the everyday hardcore family use of interiors. Accents are given to real basketry, hand work and furniture for daily use. Eco-friendly materials and more products from renewable primary sources are transmitting a new philosophy of environmental protection which today’s children are imbibing in themselves.

Exhibitor Quotes

Rajjnish Aroraa
Vice Chairman, DC Furnishings
HGH India: Home textiles, home decor, houseware, gifts. This is their eighth year in succession, and every year I have seen it growing. I’m so happy to see 700 exhibitors here. Outstanding exhibitorship and mind-blowing customers have come in today, on the first day in spite of the heavy rains just two days back. A big thumbs up to the HGH India team; the twelve to fourteen hours of work really worked well. We believe in HGH India and they made it happen. I’m also happy to note, I personally spoke to Mr. Arun Roongta, and he has confirmed to me that they will have a fourth hall next year. That news also gives us a feeling about how the show is coming up and what kind of response it will have. Actually, in the last five years, people have been looking at HGH India to come up with new ideas, new innovations and they look to HGH India as an exhibition where the newest trends are displayed and what direction the industry is heading to. I haven’t had the time to walk around, as I’ve been extremely busy with customers at my stand but I’ve heard that the footfall is about the same at every stall. I wish HGH India all the best and I’m looking forward to HGH 2020.

Mumbai, July 04, 2019: The second day of HGH India was action packed with innovations being witnessed by visitors from across 500 Indian cities. All the segments – Home Textile, Home Décor, Houseware and Gifts continued to attract interest. The concepts of Sleep Technology and Smart Cooking generated interesting conversations on changing lifestyle and a shift towards a healthier home.

As Indians move towards an upgraded lifestyle, consumers are focusing on healthier living and sleep technology and smart cooking are the important aspects that are gaining traction. Visitors could access unique products for smarter solutions of future homes at HGH India 2019.

Commenting on the success of the second day, Mr. Geert Boettger, Director, HGH India commented, “We are glad to see continued inflow of visitors from the morning and we hope that they will make the most of the extended hours till 9.30 pm today and tomorrow, Friday July 5, 2019. This year we have seen the industry react very positively to the idea healthy living in home products which strengthens our belief to launch the concepts of smart kitchen, sleep technology, Swachh Bharat at HGH 2020.”

Sleep Technology – Better sleep quality improves energy, productivity, health and overall happiness quotient of an individual. New technology like TENCELTM Lyocell fibres from Austria ensures better sleep quality with higher recovery rate and improved relaxation. The technology also maintains environmental balance by being integrated into nature’s cycle. The top benefits include biodegradability, minimal static charge, moisture management, prevention of bacterial growth, long-lasting softness among others. Indian brands like D’Décor and Featherlite mattresses are using this technology with blended cotton for offering best solution to the market. Other mattress brands like King Koil, Centuary, I Sleep, Duraflex have also been introducing new innovations to improve sleep cycles.

One of the Exhibitors, Harry Lumen, Brand Manager, Centuary Mattresses, shared his views, “Technology driven mattresses is the latest buzz in the industry. Consumers now want their wearables connected to their mattress to track their sleep habits. These mattresses can also record heartbeats, pulse, and sleep cycles. As a result of further development of this technology, mattresses are also hooked up to gadgets that can analyze your dream patterns. There is a lot of data recorded, and this is definitely going to revolutionize the mattress industry.”

Smart Cooking – In spite of the fast paced life and multiple dining options, enjoying a home cooked meal remains a comfort for the Indian household. To cater to the new age consumer, the cookware sector has adapted to meet diverse requirements coupled with functionality. To meet the demands of both traditional and modern cooks, the smart kitchen has emerged, run by technology, and is connected to the internet, and largely uses electricity over gas stoves. Products like induction based cookers, smart cookers, crockpots, insta-pots, nutri-fresh blenders, and more have emerged, with several innovative features. Some of the top brands of cookware that offer smart kitchen solutions were Stahl, Borosil, Wonderchef among others.

Rajiv Agarwal, Managing Director, Stahl, spoke about the transition taking place in India saying, “Pressure cooking is popular in India, however, we are still using a largely first generation version of cookers, as compared to our Western counterparts. The rest of the world has moved on to the third generation of pressure cookers, which work with intelligence, and run on AI. It will definitely be interesting to see the evolution in the sector over the next ten years.”

Smart cookware has also emerged as a popular choice, due to the increased health consciousness among Indians. Made using a variety of materials, including glass, enamel, non-stick coatings, stainless steel, and tri-ply, which use less oil, and ensure that nutrients are retained, and food is cooked faster.

This and more can be seen at HGH India 2019. After the first exciting two days of HGH India 2019, we look forward to another successful day on Friday, July 5, 2019.

The Trend Book reflects the influence of social and technological changes on home product market next year. Manufacturers, brands, retailers and professionals will find this trend book useful toinnovate their products, designs and sourcing to appeal to the aspirational Indian consumers.

The Four Trends unveiled under the theme are:

Flight of Fancy
Flight of fancy is a trend for everyone embracing the NEW: newest apps and high tech features are most welcome; for instance, latest gadgets and technology, performing almost everything and communicating with other gadgets. The aesthetics of this tech-savvy lifestyle asks for sensational colours and materials, based on futuristic visions of the past: neon-light in the dark, laser swords, sparkling starlight on the ceiling and polar lights: a drama created by contrasting dark and light, visualising speed and sensing electronic sounds. The corresponding colours are: blue in warm shades and greys, turquoise, violet, magenta, yellow ochre and apple green. Shiny velvet is a great issue, playful with the incoming illumination; but also a lot of synthetic materials and surfaces as neoprene or metallic effects jump into the eyes. Metal is lavishly used on furniture with sharp edges and strong shapes. Patterns vary between clear-cut geometric or otherwise opulent floral motives in exciting digital prints. In cosmetics, extravaganza and show-off is displayed most fashionable by a dark eyeshadow-palette reflecting a masculine luxurious tonus within the high-tech scene

The Flaneur
In comparison to many other societies, the Indian consumer is not convinced merely by the sound name of a brand. He searches for quality and is very much aware of value for money to make his choice. He is open to the world, a real flaneur, embracing beauty as well as function. At its time, Art Deco represented modernism and immediately turned into fashion. Its products included both individually crafted luxury items and mass-produced goods, but in either case, the intention was to create a sleek and discreet elegance, representing wealth and outstanding sophistication. The features of the flaneur-style are simple and clean shapes with less floral design as we know it from the Art Deco language, but in ludic interaction with symmetry and geometry. They reflect the striking modernity of machine made, bearing typical design features in relative simplicity, planarity, symmetry and unvaried repetition of elements. Pleasure and sensuality is celebrated, as well as theatre, beautiful chinaware, lovely laid tables in earthly colourfulness provides warmth. The colours are dimmed, soft and fancy as butterscotch, burnt coral, caramel, Pompeian red or zinfandel, combined with comfortable wooden furniture, heavy decorative textiles, becoming a great inspiration for jewellery design.

Juicy Beats
Juicy beats is inspired by fun, eternal spring and a most lovable and classic retro-style. It reflects the desire of people to change, to make a difference in their lives, to step out of routine, but still stay put in the group. Sweet feminine colours catch people on their bright side and emphasise on what might change our immediate surrounding into something a tiny little bit better. They open young peoples’ minds with new and good vibes, easy to put in practice without hesitation by this tiny retro-hint, they create passages and bridges for the ages to understand each other. The charming retro image of old photos of the 70‘s with bleached colours, highlighted by the colours of light reflections. Holography expresses this lifestyle, with its changing, almost moving colours, corresponding to light, bright as life can be: with playful stripes, dots, flowers, colour shading and blurring, all fresh and bright for wallpapers, home textiles and table ware, stationery and decorative objects.

Tribal Safari
The tribal safari trend reminds us that our planet Earth and all nature are an endless source of inspiration and deserves more attention in threatening times than ever before in history. Warm earthy colours take care of cosiness in the rooms, such to provide a restful refuge. With love for natural materials, we create a home that grounds us. Tribal Safari celebrates the scenery with the beauty of imperfection. Ethnic patterns and handmade-objects show off an uncomplicated leisure oriented ethnic trend. Dark woods, huge cushions, haptic surfaces, rugs and pottery add to an impressive surrounding. People are increasingly searching for an alternative to industrialised life and fast consumption and leading towards a sustainable future. In the coming years, aesthetically and internationally, the ethnic lifestyle will get a load of influence from Africa. We will see a lot of ethnical masks in interior decoration layers as well as ethnic inspired objects, for instance dream-catchers or ritual jewellery.

HGH India 2019, India’s largest trade show for home textiles, home décor, houseware and gifts is being held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre from July 2-4, 2019. The trends forecasted in ‘Beyond Shapes – Universal Future’ are also available compiled in a trend book, They have a physical manifestation at a generously dimensioned special area in HGH India 2019 named the Trends Pavilion in Hall 1. The Trends Pavilion is not an abstract concept of future trends but applicable designs and colours which will be demonstrated by real products showcased at HGH India. They will inspire product development and assortment planning.

HGH will connect 700 brands, manufacturers and importers from 32 countries with over 35,000 Indian retailers, wholesalers, distributors, importers, institutional buyers and interior designers from over 5000 cities and towns across India.

Kochi Consumers Looking To Splurge On Home Decor

Kochi, April 10, 2019 – Kochi, the port-city of Kerala, is not only known for its scenic beauty but also as one of the important trading hubs of India. The steady growth of over 25% in demand for home products like home textiles, houseware, home décor and gifts make Kerala in general and Kochi in particular, a lucrative market for these categories. These growth figures clearly indicate that the city’s consumers have higher aspirations and more disposable income than the rest of the state and the country. Observing these trends, Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India, the largest trade show for Indian Home Product market, addressed the media at Kochi on April 10, 2019.

Food, Clothing and Shelter – in the order of priority, are the basic needs for humans. Having met the need for food and clothing to a large extent, the urban middle class Indian is now aspiring for a better and smarter home which is consequentially reflected in the increased activity in the real estate and home-related industries. Thanks to a higher number of NRIs in Kerala, consumers have high international exposure and more disposable income than rest of India and are consistently looking to upgrade their homes and lifestyle. With people starting to look at homes as a reflection of their standards, homes have become a status symbol and as a result home textiles, home décor and houseware products are experiencing a demand surge in most parts of the country.

Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India, shared his observations stating, “Compared to rest of the country we witness still a low participation by exhibitors and visitors from the southern states, particularly Kerala with only 8 exhibitors and 515 trade visitors attending HGH India. Retailers, Institutional buyers and Interior designers from the cities like Kochi, Trivandrum, Madurai, Bangalore and Hyderabad have increased their presence at the tradeshow owing to the establishment of hundreds of new stores and the expansion of the existing stores of home products. The average demand for home textile, home décor and houseware in these cities is growing at 25-30% which is above the national average of 20%.”

Speaking about the growth potential of Kochi, Mr. Abdul Nazar, Managing Partner of Mahmood Crockery, one of the largest houseware & home decor in the city said, “Mahmood crockery has grown from a small crockery store to a twin-storey full-fledged home products and retail store, housing a wide range of items sourced from across India and the world. HGH India has been a great sourcing hub for retailers like us. Premium and luxury products have seen rapid growth in demand. We look forward to HGH India every year to gain access to upcoming trends and increasing variety of decorative accessories and houseware products, to meet the demands of our customer base in Kochi.”

HGH India has seen an increasing number of visitors from Kerala, year after year. From 2017 to 2018 there was an increase of 35% in the number of visitors. Kochi being a leading urban center and the largest cosmopolitan metropolis in Kerala, it reflects the high potential of this state in contributing to the demand and supply side of home textiles, home décor and houseware markets in India. Many of the Indian as well as International brands of curtains, furnishing fabrics, durries & carpets, bed sheets, readymade mattresses, towels, cookware, cutlery, storage & plastic houseware, glassware, crockery, kitchen appliances, decorative accessories, wallpapers, etc. are increasingly trying to reach out to distributors and retailers in Kerala.

Ahmedabad, 3rd April 2019: The evolution of Ahmedabad as a city is a story that inspires the rest of Gujarat. The city, from being a cultural and industrial hub of Gujarat has evolved into a mini-metro with a population of 7 million people and has become one of the biggest commercial centres and consumer markets in India.

With a well-planned development over the last two decades and rising disposable incomes of its citizens, Ahmedabad and its surrounding areas are bustling with retail and lifestyle activities, leading to its recognition as one of the fastest growing cities in India. Evaluating its potential, today, Ahmedabad has been chosen amongst 100 smart cities to be developed by the Government of India.

With very high construction and housing activities over the last decade, the city has obviously seen a rising demand for home products like home textiles, home décor & houseware. With the consumer demand growing at over 25% per annum, not only many of the existing stores specialising in these sectors are expanding their size and operations, many new stores are coming up all over the city.

Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India a focussed trade show for the home products market in India, visited Ahmedabad to share the progress of the 8th annual edition of this show, with specific reference to Gujarat. Sharing some interesting insights, he said, “Ahmedabad, is among the richest cities in India with an estimated GDP of $68 billion. GSDP of Gujarat increased at a CAGR from 2011-12 to 2016-17 of 13.47 per cent. Besides, a large amount of industrial investments in different sectors and infrastructure makes it one of the most rapidly growing states in India. Cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Gandhidham already have their traditional manufacturing and commercial base. Consumers in Gujarat have always valued decorating and upgrading their homes as part of their culture.

HGH India offers a platform for 700 brands & manufacturers from 32 countries to showcase their products and 35,000 retailers and institutional buyers from 480 cities and towns across India to source products from across India for their business.”

Interaction with leading retailers of Ahmedabad and Surat clearly reveals that demand for products like furnishing fabrics, wallpapers, curtains, blinds, readymade mattresses, bed sheets, decorative made-ups is growing consistently between 20% to 50%, depending on the item. Similarly, consumers in Gujarat are now increasingly preferring branded tableware, kitchen tools, cookware, kitchen appliances, storage & containers and general houseware. Both international and domestic brands are experiencing high market growth in the state of Gujarat.

Mr. Vinod Arora, Managing Director, Drape Shoppe, a leading home retailer of Ahmedabad, added, “Ahmedabad’s home textiles, decorative accessories and houseware market is growing by over 25% per annum. Consumers here are seeking improved designs and quality in the products they buy and are willing to pay a premium. This is a significant change in the profile of the market here and retailers will have to offer them products accordingly, in order to stay in the business. Shopping habits in the city have undergone a change. Consumers today seek comprehensive solutions for their homes under one roof and want to shop in a comfortable environment. Our new 30,000 sq. feet store is an example of how we have evolved, in keeping with the changing consumer lifestyle.”

On the supply side, Ahmedabad has always been recognised as a hub for textile processing in India, with one of the largest capacities for wide width bedsheet printing in its hundreds of process houses. Gradually, the city has also expanded to become an important production centre for plastic houseware. Besides, several manufacturers and importers of melamine, ceramic & pottery, decorative hardware, wallpapers and several houseware and decorative accessories have come up in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Vapi, Rajkot & Bhavnagar to cater to not only the rising demand within the state, but also in the national and international markets.

UP’s emerging opportunities in Indian home products market

Lucknow, 6th March 2019: Lucknow, besides being the state capital, is a rapidly emerging mini-metro with its various infrastructure development programs. It is poised to become a centre of growth for Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most populated states. Lifestyle changes in the city’s educated and aspirational youth, which are large in numbers, is leading to the growth of the home products market in this city. Lucknow is also one of the top emerging retail markets of India. Having analysed these opportunities, Mr. Arun Roongta, Managing Director, HGH India provided some interesting insights into the subject with the media in a press meet on 6th March 2019.

Uttar Pradesh houses India’s biggest and flourishing handicraft centres, which have carved a niche for themselves in the global markets with their uniquely created home décor, home textiles and houseware products. Lucknow’s Chikankari, Moradabad’s brass and metal work, Saharanpur’s wood crafting, Firozabad’s glass work, Bhadohi’s expertise in handmade carpets, Kanpur’s leather products and Agra’s marble work are well- known across the world. While all these centres have made their mark in the international market, they have not tapped the huge market opportunities offered by India’s domestic market in an organised manner. Today, India is one of the biggest global market for home products growing at 25% per annum. World’s leading brands and producers are focussing on India as their top 3 potential markets. There is no reason why the Indian exporters should not tap this market opportunity to their benefit and create their own brands in these segments. Uttar Pradesh must act in time to take the market lead in India.

Hence, Uttar Pradesh has a dual opportunity in the Indian domestic market to become a centre of activity for home products in India. While large cities like Lucknow and Kanpur are emerging big retail and consumption centres, various handicraft centres can emerge as leading suppliers across the country.

When we specifically look at Lucknow, a recent report by ANAROCK mentions that 35% of luxury retail consumption in India comes from Tier II and Tier III cities, making Lucknow among 11 other cities in the country, as the top retail destination. In the last couple of years many retail real estate developers have ventured into the city and some are expected to set up business in 2019. Given the changing lifestyle patterns, growing spending power and home being an important aspect of life, makes Lucknow a potential market of the growing home industry.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Roongta said, “Nearly 100 million of India’s growing middle class currently live in Tier-II cities, and are becoming the new target audience for many large retailers. Home is rapidly emerging as an important segment not only for metros but for mini metros like Lucknow where people are showing greater interest in buying home products. Retailers and wholesalers of Uttar Pradesh and specifically Lucknow can use HGH India as a platform to source innovative, world-class products to meet the growing demand of the urban population here. We are also committed to connecting the best of Uttar Pradesh to the retailers and distributors from all over India. Manufacturers from the state will find great business opportunities in a trade show like HGH India where retailers from across the country and other countries come to source home products. We welcome visitors and manufacturers to the upcoming eighth annual edition of HGH India from July 2-4, 2019 in Mumbai and experience a positive difference in their business.”

Conceptualized and implemented by the internationally renowned design office Sahm + Permantier, the trends under the title ‘across times’ reflects our roots in the past, our current life and traces to the future.

The predicted trends are derived through intense research on changing consumer values, lifestyle, evolving technology and attitudes. Tropical Joy – an opulent nature
The beauty of diversity is best expressed in nature. The traditional floral design approach opens up and merges with opulent tropical pattern in supernatural colourations and as giant digital flower prints. In nature, surrounded by plants and flowers, we take rest and relax from the omnipresent stress and noisy life.

Research shows that experiences nature, even in the form of nature prints, reduces stress and contributes to emotional and physical wellbeing. Our senses are constantly stimulated by the presence of plants. Recognizing the great potential of nature, all natural products are a part of this trend.

Ethnic Treasure – a highly convenient ethnic chic
Ethnic designs are in focus all around the world as a unifying global trend. So India as a country with strong creative traditions is actually on stage with its vast array of handicrafts from dyeing, weaving, quilting, printing to wood carvings, basketry craft and metal works. In a well created, warm Bohemian ambience these Indian creations are in good company.
The décor plays a key role with textured wallpapers, pattern mix and wooden furniture. The interior ambience is complemented with cherished objects.

Classical Trail – a refined elegance

The classic interior is an expression of the human desire for balance and harmony. In today’s modern lifestyle the interpretation of the classical as we know it has become somewhat subtle. A hint of nature is fused into through textures that reinvent the beauty of classical themes with sophistication. Geology is the source of inspiration here. Beautiful landscapes, curves on sand, rocks and mineral formations inspire the patterns of carpets, wallpapers and upholstery fabrics. New tangible sensations enrich the interiors.

Digital Medley – a futuristic satellite

The aesthetics of the digital technologies open up a new cosmos for designers. Spending hours in front of a screen, we get used to all kinds of effects of the virtual world. Playfully, with fun and passion, new realities are discovered through virtual head sets and the computerized so- called ‘Smart Living’.
